Piloting of the BA/MA module

One of the tasks of Erasmus+ KA220-HED eRead project is to develop and integrate a BA/MA module “Teaching Reading Digitally” into the course of Methods of Teaching Languages in HEIs of 4 partner countries – Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

Our priority is to stimulate innovative learning and teaching practices through digital transformation and promote language learning opportunities for citizens of all generations. So, the project objective is to develop challenging learning materials and empower current and future foreign/second language teachers with knowledge, experience, and tools to develop the reading skills of their students digitally.

The module designed by the by international team in the framework of the project has been piloted in 4 partner universities. The module includes 4 topics:

1) Students’ reading experience; synthetic and analytic method for learning to read;

2) Developing reading skills in XXI century;

3) Learning to read and developing reading skills throughout our life;

4) Didactic principles and strategies for creating reading tasks for school pupils.

The learning process during the module implementation is organized according to student-centered learning principles, which will be the basic approach to obtain meaningful learning. Even though the module focuses on reading skills, the learning process includes all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Considering the modern challenges, the module can be delivered in-person, online (e.g., in Ukraine distance learning is now the only option due to the safety situation in times of the full-scale war), or using blended learning form.

The module developers are excited to put their ideas into practice and receive the learners' reactions to the module. On completion of the module, the students give feedback of its effectiveness, and the module will be refined for further running on a permanent basis.
